Our Purpose
Whether you call it a purpose, a mission, a passion — it’s what we stand for: making lives better by creating great spaces for people who share our values.
Dave Payne & Dean Tompkins met while the two studied Mechanical Engineering at OSU in the nineties. Dean & Dave quickly learned that they had unique and differing skill sets which teamed them well through the grueling coursework and studies necessary to complete their education at a high level of success.
After graduation, Dave joined his father, uncle, and brothers, at Payne & Payne Builders and focused on custom home building. Several years later, Dave, along with help from his father, Mike Payne Sr, persuaded Dean to uproot his family from Columbus and to move to Cleveland to join the company. For almost twenty years, they utilized the collaboration they honed in college into residential construction and land development at Payne & Payne, and built hundreds of homes and renovations projects.
In 2018, Dave & Dean opened up ‘Payne & Payne Renovations & Design’, a separately owned company focusing exclusively on upscale residential remodeling. This allowed Dave and Dean further opportunity to leverage their unique collaboration into a focus exclusively into renovations work. In 2022, we changed our name to “Payne & Tompkins Design Renovations” to honor Dean and his longtime leadership and company commitment.
Today, we’re a company with a mission to ‘Make Lives Better’, we believe we do that for our clients through their spaces and for our teammates and trade partners by creating one of the best places to work in the state of Ohio.
